Sales Banners

Sales banners are eye-catching promotional strips displayed at the top of your storefront to announce sales, special offers, or important messages to customers. Create unlimited banners with custom styling, scheduling, and priority control to maximize the impact of your promotions.

Overview

Sales banners help you:

  • Highlight Active Promotions: Draw attention to ongoing sales and limited-time offers
  • Drive Urgency: Use countdown timers and scheduled end dates to create FOMO
  • Increase Click-Through: Add call-to-action links directly in the banner
  • Control Visibility: Schedule banners to start/end automatically or manually enable/disable them
  • Link to Sales: Connect banners to specific sale campaigns for automated display
  • Multi-Banner Display: Show multiple banners stacked, rotate them, or display only the highest priority

Feature Availability

Sales Banners are available on select plans. Check your plan features in Settings → Billing to confirm access.

Linking to Sales

Connect your banner to one or more sale campaigns:

  1. Check the boxes next to relevant sales in the "Link to Sales" section
  2. Banner will automatically appear/disappear based on linked sales' schedules
  3. Sales status (Active/Inactive) is shown for reference

When linked to a sale:

  • Banner inherits the sale's timing if no custom schedule is set
  • Inactive sales are still shown in the list for reference
  • You can link multiple sales to a single banner

Display Settings

Control how multiple active banners are shown to customers:

  1. Click Display Settings in the top-right corner
  2. Choose a display mode:

  2. Click Edit next to the banner
  3. Make changes and click Update Banner

Quickly toggle banners without deleting:

  • Click Enable or Disable next to the banner
  • Status badge shows current state (Active/Inactive)

Deleting a Banner

  1. Click Delete next to the banner
  2. Confirm the deletion in the modal

Permanent Deletion

Deleted banners cannot be recovered. Consider disabling instead if you might reuse the banner later.

A live preview appears at the bottom of the create/edit form, showing exactly how the banner will appear to customers:

  • See your text, colors, and font size in real-time
  • Test link appearance before publishing
  • Ensure color contrast is readable

Best Practices

Design

  • High Contrast: Use colors with strong contrast for readability (e.g., dark text on light background)
  • Concise Text: Keep messages under 100 characters for mobile compatibility
  • Brand Colors: Match your store's color scheme for a cohesive look
  • Test Readability: Check the preview on both light and dark backgrounds

Timing

  • Schedule in Advance: Set start dates for upcoming sales to avoid manual activation
  • End Dates: Always set end dates for time-limited offers to maintain urgency
  • Overlap Awareness: When using rotation mode, ensure banners don't contradict each other
  • Priority System: Use priority 90-100 for critical announcements, 50-70 for regular sales, 0-30 for evergreen messages

Content

  • Clear CTA: Use action verbs in link text ("Shop Now", "Save 50%", "Get Started")
  • Create Urgency: Include deadlines or limited quantity mentions
  • Value Proposition: Lead with the benefit ("Free Shipping" not "Shipping Update")
  • Avoid Clutter: Don't link every banner – save links for major promotions

Performance

  • Limit Active Banners: 3-4 stacked banners maximum to avoid page clutter
  • Rotation Over Stacking: Use rotation mode for 5+ concurrent promotions
  • Mobile First: Test banner appearance on mobile devices (most traffic source)
  • Monitor Clicks: Check link click-through rates to optimize messaging

Tracking Performance

While the interface doesn't show detailed analytics, you can track banner effectiveness:

  1. Click-Through Tracking: Link URLs are tracked when customers click
  2. A/B Testing: Create similar banners with different messaging and compare engagement
  3. Sales Correlation: Monitor sales spikes during banner display periods
  4. Link Analytics: Use UTM parameters in link URLs for Google Analytics tracking

Example URL with tracking:

https://yourstore.com/products/holiday-sale?utm_source=banner&utm_campaign=winter2024

Troubleshooting

Possible Causes:

  1. Inactive Status: Check that "Active" toggle is ON
  2. Schedule Issues: Verify start/end dates are correct for current time
  3. Display Mode: If set to "highest priority only", ensure this banner has the highest priority value
  4. Browser Cache: Clear your browser cache or test in incognito mode
  5. Plan Limitation: Confirm your plan includes Sales Banners

Solution: Edit the banner, verify all settings, and ensure it's set to active with correct dates.

Multiple Banners Overlapping

Cause: Display mode is set to "Show all banners stacked" with many active banners.

Solution:

  • Switch to "Rotate between banners" mode
  • Disable lower-priority banners
  • Adjust priorities to use "Show only highest priority"

Colors Not Showing Correctly

Cause: Invalid hex color codes or browser rendering issues.

Solution:

  • Use the color picker instead of manual entry
  • Ensure hex codes start with # (e.g., #ff0000)
  • Test in multiple browsers

Possible Causes:

  1. Missing Protocol: URL must start with https:// or http://
  2. Missing Link Text: Both URL and text must be filled
  3. URL Typo: Check for typos in the destination URL

Solution: Edit the banner and verify both link URL and link text are properly filled.

Cause: Browser caching or timezone mismatch.

Solution:

  1. Wait 5-10 minutes for cache to clear
  2. Check your store's timezone setting
  3. Manually disable the banner if urgent

Rotation Not Working

Cause: JavaScript disabled or only one active banner.

Solution:

  • Ensure at least 2 banners are active for rotation
  • Check that customers have JavaScript enabled
  • Test in a different browser

Technical Notes

Banners render as a centered text strip with inline styles:

html
<div style="background-color: #ef4444; color: #ffffff; font-size: 14px;">
  Your banner text
  <a href="https://..." style="color: #ffffff;">Link Text</a>
</div>

Mobile Responsiveness

Banners automatically adapt to mobile screens:

  • Font sizes scale proportionally
  • Text wraps on narrow screens
  • Links stack below text if needed

Performance Impact

Each banner adds minimal overhead:

  • ~500 bytes per banner (text + styles)
  • Rotation uses lightweight JavaScript
  • No external resources loaded
  • Sales & Promotions - Create time-limited discounts that banners can link to
  • Popups - Display targeted messages in modal overlays
  • Announcements - Platform-wide messages for system updates
  • Email Campaigns - Send promotional emails to complement banner campaigns
  • Coupons - Distribute discount codes promoted in banners
  • Cart Recovery - Follow up with customers who didn't complete checkout

Combine Features

Maximize impact by coordinating sales banners with email campaigns and limited-time coupons. Announce the promotion via banner, send an email reminder, and provide a coupon code for extra savings.
